Designer Toru N.Fujimoto’s creative foundation has always been rooted in punk culture. Among its many facets, the DIY ethos remains one of the most important principles underpinning the way MINUS approaches making clothes. The studded jackets and crust pants he continues to build himself are symbolic of this philosophy. For Fujimoto, the act of transforming garments with his own hands is itself a form of design. As an extension of that spirit, MINUS periodically releases custom-oriented items such as the BOOTLEG PATCHES series, inviting others to share in the enjoyment of DIY creation. For this piece, the motif is inspired by the Tiger Head patches seen throughout the 1960s. Referencing the patches worn by Rockers of the era, as well as the costume of Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, MINUS reinterprets the design by replacing the tiger with a black panther. The patch is fully embroidered using five colors of thread. After being sewn onto a die-cut black felt base, each piece is individually aged by hand, giving it the appearance of a vintage artifact that has lived through decades of wear. A product designed not to complete a garment, but to allow the wearer to continue evolving it with their own hands. Enjoy it with complete freedom.
