With the PROVOKE#2 collection, dresswear was introduced as a new category within MINUS. The PROVOKE#3 collection reconsiders the contemporary definition and relevance of dresswear. This piece is designed with reference to classic work trousers from designer Toru N.Fujimoto’s personal vintage archive. Its purpose was to question the boundary at which a garment is perceived as “dress.” A deliberately casual chino cloth is selected as the primary material. The construction does not rely on crease pressing, intentionally distancing the piece from traditional dress formality. The concept originates from Fujimoto’s styling during his time working at a vintage clothing store. He would fold the front of extremely oversized trousers and secure them with a belt, similar to Thai pants. The drape and resulting silhouette created by this method became the foundation of the design. Additionally, the torsion that naturally occurs in unsanforized vintage denim is adopted as a structural element. By intentionally twisting the entire garment, the flow of its wrap-like drape is emphasized and refined. The waistband and back pocket specifications follow those found in work trousers from his vintage collection. The length carries a weighted proportion that resists categorization—neither fully full-length nor distinctly shorts. The sulfur-dyed chino cloth allows the garment to develop character and patina over time. Through styling, the piece reveals entirely different expressions, offering a wide range of visual interpretations. Made in Japan.
