With the PROVOKE#2 collection, dresswear was introduced as a new category within MINUS. The PROVOKE#3 collection reconsiders the contemporary relevance and definition of dresswear. This piece is designed with reference to classic work trousers from designer Toru N.Fujimoto’s personal vintage archive. The objective was to question where the boundary lies— at what point does a garment become recognized as “dress”? A deliberately casual chino cloth is selected as the material. The construction does not rely on pressed creases, intentionally distancing the piece from conventional dress formality. The initial inspiration stems from Fujimoto’s styling during his time working at a vintage clothing store. He would fold the front of extremely oversized trousers and secure them with a belt, similar to the structure of Thai pants. The resulting drape and silhouette informed the foundation of this design. Additionally, the natural torsion found in unsanforized vintage denim is incorporated as a structural element. The entire garment is intentionally twisted, enhancing the movement and flow of its wrap-like drape. The waistband and back pocket specifications follow those of traditional work trousers from his vintage collection. While sufficient volume is maintained to sit properly over footwear, a night cut at the back hem prevents the trousers from dragging against the ground. The fabric is sulfur-dyed chino cloth, allowing the garment to develop character and patina over time. Depending on styling, the piece presents entirely different expressions, offering a wide range of visual interpretations. Made in Japan.
