A contemporary reinterpretation of jeans originating in the 1870s, reconstructed as substantial shorts around MINUS’s signature wide silhouette. The rugged presence of early denim is preserved and layered with the grunge-inflected, rustic atmosphere distinctive to MINUS. A slightly deeper rise creates a sculptural wide silhouette that stands away from the body. The boldly cut-off, elongated length brings deliberate weight to the lower half, producing a different balance and expression depending on the footwear with which it is styled. The garment is constructed from ASAT CAMO denim, an original textile developed by MINUS. The pattern is produced through discharge printing at a historic hand-printing workshop in Kyoto. By carefully adjusting the intensity of color removal by hand, the artisans create subtle fluctuations and tonal irregularities that cannot be achieved through uniform industrial printing, giving the ASAT CAMO pattern its distinctive depth. The richly processed surface and the fabric’s natural firmness enhance the sculptural volume of the wide silhouette. Restrained DARL-finished hardware is paired with a cinch back for waist adjustment. Balancing utility with classical detailing, every element is designed to evolve through time and wear. As the color and texture gradually change, the garment develops an expression unique to its owner.
