Drawing from designer Toru N. Fujimoto’s personal collection, this piece references a pair of jeans widely regarded as one of the masterpieces of a renowned jeans manufacturer. The pattern was extracted directly from Fujimoto’s own vintage XX. While preserving the original silhouette and size specifications, the construction has been reworked into a curved silhouette that creates a modern and distinctive interplay of light and shadow. The curved construction also places a unique tension on the fabric, allowing the denim to develop fading patterns unlike those of conventional jeans. One of the principles Fujimoto places particular importance on in his design process is the idea of designing the aging process itself. This piece is a particularly direct expression of that philosophy. The details remain rooted in the classical construction of vintage jeans. A robust button fly. A back cinch for adjusting the waist.
