A cut-and-sew piece that designer Toru N. Fujimoto currently considers one of the most permanent propositions within MINUS. Drawing from the vintage T-shirts in his personal archive, the garment was designed as a layering tool that allows MINUS BOOTLEG TEEs to be worn throughout the year. For this iteration, a highly stretchable jersey fabric was selected to increase versatility across different styling situations. The piece is intended to be layered beneath T-shirts that have undergone relatively little fading, and is treated with a specialized bleaching and dyeing process to create the softened coloration and surface character associated with well-worn vintage garments. One of the primary considerations in its construction is the interference created when the seams of a long-sleeve layer overlap with those of a T-shirt worn above it. With conventional set-in sleeves, overlapping seams can create unnecessary thickness and visible ridges beneath the outer garment. To prevent this, the piece incorporates split raglan sleeves, deliberately shifting the seam positions away from those of the T-shirt layered above. By reducing seam interference and excess bulk, the construction creates a cleaner and more refined layered silhouette. The body is designed with a hem slightly narrower than the chest width. In addition to making the garment easier to tuck in, this construction allows the hem to be held at different positions, effectively adjusting the perceived length according to the styling. The idea originated from Fujimoto’s observation that T-shirts of varying lengths within his own wardrobe could often limit the choice of trousers and alter the balance of an outfit. By allowing the hem position to shift, the garment accommodates different T-shirt lengths while expanding both the range and freedom of styling. When worn so that the hem appears subtly beneath a T-shirt or outer layer, it also emphasizes the clean, elongated vertical silhouette central to MINUS. The fabric offers excellent horizontal stretch, allowing the close-fitting silhouette to remain comfortable and unrestricted. Thumbholes are incorporated into the cuffs, functioning both as a styling detail and as hand warmers. The jersey is also lightly distressed, introducing the rustic character associated with MINUS. Rather than functioning simply as practical innerwear, the garment has been developed around the idea of functionality as a styling effect. Wear it on its own or interpret it freely through layering.
