This piece is a MINUS re-interpretation of a signature work jacket from a renowned workwear brand. As its name suggests, the design began by delving into the concept of “skin.” The rugged texture of the leather speaks for itself, while the pattern-making incorporates principles of ergonomics. Iconic glove-style sleeves are used at the cuffs, and a double zipper accelerates the styling potential. The leather is our now-familiar tannin-tanned pigskin, a staple of recent MINUS collections. Today, pigskin is virtually the only leather that can still be called fully domestic in Japan. Although it has a reputation as inexpensive leather in Japan, in Europe its durability, flexibility, and breathability are highly valued and it is widely used by luxury brands for everything from bags to small goods. Drawn to this bias, Fujimoto initiated the material development himself. We employ an exceptionally high-grade tannin rarely used on pigskin in Japan and finish it slowly and carefully. Its patina and aging speak for themselves. To enrich its expression even further, each piece is individually silver-surfaced in our atelier using a spiked bat. Rustic edges—an established detail of MINUS leather goods—and the deep shadows of the leather texture together evoke the brand’s decadent atmosphere, contrasted with the minimal, dull-finished hardware.
