A piece inspired by the BRONX model from a certain British manufacturer, referenced from the personal collection of designer Toru.N.Fujimoto. Within that brand’s lineup, this is a relatively low-profile, connoisseur’s model—but it is the one Toru.N.Fujimoto wears most frequently. He first encountered this model through a single photograph in a music magazine: a leather jacket worn by Joey Ramone of the Ramones, a band he still deeply admires today. That image led him to discover the brand, making this model a deeply personal and memorial one for him. Believed to have been released in 1956, this model—classified as a so-called “Lonjan” (British-style riders jacket)—is unusually American in spirit. Among the brand’s riders jackets, it stands as the most rugged and uncompromising design. It is said that the development of this model was strongly influenced by Marlon Brando, an icon of aspiration for young people at the time, famously known for the film The Wild One. Levi’s 501 jeans, Chippewa engineer boots, and a durable American-style riders jacket— while Fujimoto himself did not live through that era and cannot fully grasp the intensity of the moment, there is no doubt that Brando remains one of the most influential figures in the history of menswear. As a result, traditional British riders jackets gradually fell out of favor. Teenagers longed for the “American” riders jacket that Brando wore. Facing this shift, the historic manufacturer—founded in 1892—sought to preserve the DNA it had protected and cultivated, while challenging the American riders category. In collaboration with American designer Bud Ganz, the brand successfully developed the BRONX model. Fujimoto recalls being deeply moved by the modest and humble spirit behind this challenge undertaken by such a storied manufacturer. For this release, MINUS reinterprets the twin-track specification of the original model, replacing it with dot buttons. Rather than simply shaping the garment overall, this allows the wearer to control their preferred silhouette— from body shaping to collar form, lapel angle, and even the height of the front overlap— by adjusting the position and number of button closures. While preserving the decadent and rustic atmosphere characteristic of MINUS, raw leather edges are intentionally utilized to create a rugged, unfinished finish. A ladder stitch runs along the center back. Crafted from original cowhide, hand-dyed all the way through to the core. It offers a different aging character, distinct from conventional brown-core leather. Enjoy wearing it in, and letting it evolve.
