The BOOTLEG COLLECTION pays homage to the 1990s vintage T-shirts found within the personal archive of designer Toru N. Fujimoto. Among them, NINE INCH NAILS is one of the bands that had a profound influence on his adolescence. For this release, the BOOTLEG COLLECTION introduces its first heavy outerwear piece. The garment takes its starting point from 1990s vintage band merchandise in Fujimoto’s personal archive and reconstructs it through the perspective of MINUS. The defining graphic is rendered through a specialized embroidery technique that recreates even the distressed and irregular appearance of the original print. By translating traces normally created through the aging and fading of print into the contrasting medium of embroidery, the graphic gains a new sense of depth and dimension. The outer shell is constructed from a classic nylon twill reminiscent of fabrics used in vintage MA-1 flight jackets. To create the rustic and decadent atmosphere associated with MINUS, the fabric is pigment-dyed and then subjected to a ball bio-wash after construction. By layering these dyeing and finishing processes, the inherent sheen of nylon is subdued while irregular tonal variation and the depth of a garment worn over many years are introduced. Through repeated wear and washing, the color gradually fades, developing natural creasing, contrast, and shadow while aging alongside the embroidery. Ribbing is placed only on the inside of the hem. This preserves the rounded volume characteristic of an MA-1 while visually suppressing the ribbing from the exterior, creating a sharper and more contemporary silhouette. Glove sleeves are incorporated at the cuffs. Extending over the hands, they provide increased protection from the cold while introducing a distinctive outline to winter layering. The memory of vintage band merchandise, the functionality of military outerwear, and the evolving surface of aged nylon coexist within a single garment. Enjoy it through your own interpretation.
